Shots fired -- in your facility!

A disgruntled former employee returns to face the manager who terminated him.

An angry zealot with a cause confronts your staff in the company office.

None of these are scenes any of us want to occur, but they are becoming increasingly common. Barely a week goes by without a report of a workplace attack, often with devastating, long-term results.  We watch these events unfold on the media and hope it never happens to us.

How would you or your employees respond in such a situation?  What steps can you, as a manager, take to prevent workplace violence and to prepare your employees to react in a manner to reduce the threat of injury or death?

During this session Randy Groesbeck will discuss trends in workplace violence, present case histories and lessons learned from studies of these incidents, and outline steps managers can take to reduce the threat of workplace violence.  The contemporary methodology for workplace violence suggests a simple, yet effective three-tier approach to workplace violence:

Get out -- put as much distance between yourself and the assailant as possible.

Hide out -- if you cannot get out, hide out.

Strike out -- if contact with the assailant is unavoidable, you must survive.

We will explore the elements of this approach and how you and your employees can form a personal protection plan to minimize the potential to become a victim of workplace violence.

There is an increasingly common and disturbing trend of violence in the workplace.  It seems barely a week goes by without a report of a workplace attack, often with devastating, long-term results.  I will discuss violence prevention, preparation for a violent incident, and steps which can be taken to reduce the number of injuries or deaths that occur as a result of workplace violence.  This presentation also includes a film graphically illustrating protective measures all workers can take in the event of an incident.

Please join Dayton IFMA to welcome Randy Groesbeck with the University of Dayton.
